After over 50 years of operation, working in various locations and cultures, we have learned to adapt and integrate our skills with local needs to produce exciting but relevant and economically efficient projects.

JRHP International’s design objective
is to apply their international experience
to local project solutions.

The Practice

John R Harris & Partners was established in 1949 and grew into an international practice from the head office in London, with associate offices throughout the UK and in Qatar, Spain, Australia and the Far East. In 1960 HH Shk Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum invited JRHP to develop a Masterplan for the rapidly growing city of Dubai.

Thereafter John R Harris & Partners established the Dubai office, over 40 years ago, and since that time progressed to design many of the region’s significant buildings and have been actively involved in the development of the Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries, approaching projects with a high respect for culture, location, climate and budget.

Historically, no single architectural practice has had a more significant impact in shaping the architecture of the Gulf Region than JRHP. JRHP continue to influence the architecture of the region with JAFZA Views, a twin 27 storey development on Shk Zayed Road, and the entry of new Dubai.

Recently the practice has been restructured to take advantage of its long term presence and position in the Middle East and to optimise it for competition in the Middle East, UK and worldwide markets.

John R Harris & Partners - A Brief History

John R Harris first established an architectural practice in London in 1949 and over the following years this grew into a group of associated practices in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Brunei, Hong Kong, France and Belgium.

John R Harris first commenced an operation in Dubai, Trucial States (later United Arab Emirates) following an invitation from HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed al Maktoum to develop a Master Plan for Dubai.

John R Harris and Partners (JRHP) was formed as a partnership and a Dubai civil company, Professional Licence, No 100680 issued by Dubai Department of Economic Development, allowing Construction Engineering Design consultancy services.  The licence was issued on 7th May 1970 and the Dubai firm has continually operated with no major interruption other than changes in partners and managers.

1975 - 1979

JRHP was commissioned by HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed al Maktoum to design the Dubai World Trade Centre, at the time and for many years the tallest building in the Arab World and formally opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1979.

1979 - March 2001

During this period JRHP continued to operate as a local civil company, Professional Licence No 100680 in Dubai.  It continued in the format of a partnership with various partners based in London together with a local resident partner.

March 2001 - July 2001

JRHP Dubai stopped providing services in March and recommenced in July under new temporary ownership, later as per local law requirements converted to a civil works partnership. Mark Harris was joined on the Trade Licence by Mohammed Kuleib (local engineer) and Frank Nowacki.

July 2001 - present

During this period the practice has delivered a number of high profile projects successfully within the UAE and the wider region. The practice has maintained an 'Unlimited' category License, issued by the Department of Economic Development Dubai and currently employs a 30+ strong team including Architects, Civil/Structural Engineers, Project Managers and administration staff.
